Why Design-Only? The Case for an Independent Advocate
If you are talking to a traditional "design-build" firm, they might offer you a free sketch or a discounted design fee. While that sounds like a saving, it usually creates a conflict of interest.
When a builder designs your garden, they are often designing what is easiest for their specific crew to build, what uses the materials they have in stock, or what maximizes their profit margin on the construction.
At Regenerative Designs, I don't sell blocks, plants, or pavers. I sell the technical intelligence required to make your land perform.
1. Total Price Transparency
When I provide a Master Plan, you own the intellectual property. Because I am not trying to "win" a construction contract, my specifications are unbiased.
With a completed 3D model and technical plan, you can take your project to three different contractors and get "apples-to-apples" quotes. You will see exactly where your money is going. You aren't locked into one builder's pricing; you are in the driver's seat.
2. We Solve Problems on Screen, Not on Site
In my ten years in the IT industry, I learned that "bugs" are much cheaper to fix in the code than they are after the software is launched. The same applies to your garden.
A "free" sketch from a landscaper often lacks the technical depth to account for drainage, soil levels, or solar orientation. This leads to "variation costs" and expensive changes once the excavators are already in your backyard.
My use of Vectorworks Landmark and Enscape allows us to stress-test the design in a 3D environment. We find the "bugs" in the design phase, saving you thousands in onsite corrections.
3. Technical Rigour Over "Artistic Intuition"
A garden designed by a builder is often a collection of features—a pool here, a firepit there. A garden designed using the Booth and Hiss methodology is a cohesive system.
The Foundation: Ensuring the soil science and drainage are mapped before a single plant is chosen.
The Framework: Using the "Outdoor Room" concept to ensure the space actually functions for your life.
The Specification: Providing a precise planting and materials list that leaves no room for "near enough is good enough" interpretations by a contractor.
4. Your Personal Project Advocate
Even though I don't build the garden myself, I don't disappear once the plan is finished. As your designer, I can stay involved as your advocate. I can review the builder’s progress, ensure the plant quality meets the specification, and make sure the "wall planes" are being installed exactly as we mapped them in the 3D model.
I work for you, not the construction crew.
A Limited Intake for Maximum Precision
Because I act as an independent advocate and provide this level of technical detail, I only accept 4 to 6 projects per year. This ensures that every Master Plan receives my full attention and the precision your property deserves.
I am currently accepting applications for the 2026 season.
