Our Philosophy. Architecture Without Walls

Most people look at their property and see "yard work" or a collection of plants. I see a series of volumes.

At Regenerative Designs, we follow the principle that a garden should function with the same intentionality as your kitchen or your living room. We don't "decorate" the outdoors; we build Outdoor Rooms.

The Three Planes of Design

Using the “outdoor room” methodology developed by Norman Booth and James Hiss, we define your space through three structural layers. This is how we turn an open, exposed lot into a private, comfortable sanctuary.

The Floor Plane

This is what you walk on—native grasses, recycled timber, local stone, or subtle elevation changes. It dictates the pace and flow of your movement.

The Overhead Plane

In the Queensland heat, the "ceiling" is the most important part of the room. We use the canopy of native trees to filter the sun, create dappled light, and naturally lower the temperature of your home.

The Wall Plane

We use the density of local mid-storey plants to create privacy and "walls" of greenery. This provides a sense of enclosure and cooling without the need for harsh, expensive fencing.

Native Ecology as a High-End Choice

There is a misconception that native gardens are "messy" or "wild." This only happens when there is no design system in place.

I choose to work exclusively with Australian natives because they have a structural honesty that exotic plants lack. A Banksia or a Grevillea doesn't just "survive" here; it thrives. When we plant species that belong in the Sunshine Coast or the Hinterland, we aren't just gardening—we are restoring the local character of your land.

The result is a landscape that feels inevitable. It looks like it has always been there, perfectly adapted to the rain, the soil, and the light of its specific location.

The Logic of the Living System

My ten years in the IT industry taught me that a good system is invisible. It just works.

I view a landscape as a living system. If the "code" (the soil health, the drainage, and the plant selection) is wrong, the "user interface" (the beauty of the garden) will eventually fail.

I don't rely on artistic whims. I rely on technical analysis. By understanding the "logic" of your land—where the water pools, where the wind hits, and how the sun moves—I can design a space that requires less maintenance and more enjoyment.

Why We Only Do 4 to 6 Projects

You cannot build a custom system on a production line.

I limit my intake because "Regenerative" is more than just a name—it is a commitment. It means I am on-site to test your soil. It means I am at the computer refining the 3D model to ensure the "wall plane" of your garden perfectly blocks the western sun.

We aren't just planting trees. We are building the architecture of your outdoor life.

Is your property a match?

If you want a garden that respects the Australian landscape and is built with technical precision, we should talk.
