Hunting for problems
I spend time on your block looking for the things that make it uncomfortable. We look at where the hot sun hits in the afternoon and where the wind tunnels are. We check the slope and the drainage and look for where the neighbours can see in.
Learning how you live
We talk about what you actually want to do outside. Whether it is a place for the kids to run or a private spot for a morning coffee we need to know exactly how you want to use the land before we start designing.
THE SPATIAL BLUEPRINTMapping out the rooms
Before we talk about plants or pavers we create a bubble map. This is where we organize the different zones of your property. We decide where the private area goes and where the service areas should be tucked away. This ensures the flow of the property makes sense. We make sure the kitchen area has an easy path to the outdoor dining room and the quiet spots are far away from the noise of the street.
THE SPATIAL GEOMETRYBuilding the three planes
The Floor
We define the ground plane using native grasses or stone. This is where the activity happens.
The Walls
We use native hedges and screens to build vertical planes. This creates privacy and enclosure.
The Ceiling
We use tree canopies to create an overhead plane. This provides shade and makes the room feel cozy.
CONSTRUCTION-READY DOCUMENTATIONYour final master plan
A blueprint for your builder
The result of our process is a full architectural plan. This document shows exactly where every room goes and which native plants will act as your walls and ceilings. It takes the guesswork out of the project and ensures everything is built correctly. You can take this plan to a landscape contractor or use it to build the garden yourself over time knowing that the design is solid.
