I’m Justin Nigh
I apply systems engineering and architectural principles to the Australian landscape.
My background is in systems
Before moving to the Sunshine Coast I spent years as an IT Systems Engineer in the heart of the Sydney CBD. I worked with complex structures and high-level logic. I have always been more interested in how things work and how they are designed than just looking at the surface level.
When I decided to make a tree change I took that same analytical mindset into landscape design. I studied the process at Niagara College in Canada where I focused on the principles of residential architecture. I never wanted to be a gardener. I wanted to be a designer.
Why I choose natives
I use Australian native plants exclusively for one reason. They are the logical choice.
A lot of gardens on the coast try to look like a tropical postcard using trendy exotic plants. To me those gardens often feel out of place. I prefer the authentic character and resilience of our local flora. These plants are the best building materials we have to create functional outdoor rooms that actually survive our climate.
Life on the coast
When I am not at my drawing board I am usually outside exploring. I spend a lot of time walking my two Jack Russell Terriers along the beach. I love looking at the coastal dune vegetation to see how nature designs its own screens and layers. It is the best inspiration for the work I do for my clients.
Why I only do design
I focus 100% of my energy on the plan. By staying away from the construction side I can provide an unbiased and highly detailed blueprint for your property. You get my full expertise as a designer and a clear path forward for your project.
