GREENMOUNT COURT
An Acreage Landscape Restoration
Mount Samson, QLD
-
“Our property is 5 acres with established gardens on a gently sloping block. We are looking to recharge the tired gardens with natives and encourage the outstanding range of bird and fauna we have in the area. There are multiple sections within the property that we would like a master plan prepared and have the work staged over time.” -Homeowner.
-
The homeowner purchased the property for its natural features and native vegetation but desired to renovate the existing established gardens to “make it their own;” thereby reflecting their personal needs, tastes, and preferences. They wanted to reduce overall maintenance, especially of the exotic palms that frequently dropped messy fronds. Additionally, they aimed to create a garden style more suited to the Australian context by replacing the exotic tropical planting with native Australian plants.
-
The design focused on creating a harmonious blend of native plants, natural materials, and white clay brick, emphasizing a relaxed, organic feel and strong material connection with the home with the repetition of the white brick in the landscape. Key elements included:
Organic Entry: A natural stone stepper pathway leads through native grasses and groundcovers to the front entry of the home.
Outdoor Dining: A modern, minimalist hardwood timber pergola creates the “ceiling,” while white clay brick paving serves as the “walls” and “floor.”
Firepit Area: The grey sandstone block and log seating encircles a central, large cast iron firepit set on grey crushed gravel, providing a gathering space for both small and large groups overlooking the existing dam.
Shaded Seating: A circular seating area positioned under an existing shade tree near the front entry of the home with views to the range to the West. The white clay brick is again repeated in the circular walling for visual connection with the dwelling.
Sunny Seating: A hardwood timber bench was oriented towards the East, offering a sunny spot to sit amongst the native planting and enjoy a morning coffee. The white clay brick is again repeated in the walling and steppers for visual connection with the dwelling.
Native Planting: Mass plantings create a harmonious and sustainable landscape.
Moon Gate: A moon gate made from corten steel provides a striking transition point from one area of the garden to another.
Bird Baths: Copper spun bird baths feature in key areas of the garden to encourage bird life and provide the opportunity for bird watching.
-
Integration with Existing Home: The design seamlessly blends with the modern architecture of the existing home, using natural materials and native plants to create a harmonious transition.
Low Maintenance: The selection of native plants and grasses ensures a minimal maintenance requirement, allowing the clients to enjoy their outdoor space without constant upkeep.

The comprehensive landscape master plan design provides the homeowner with a clear roadmap for their garden renovations and additions.
